Material Loss & Mass Balance Intelligence
Where did the rest of the mass go?
The manufacturing problem
The gap between input and finished weight is known, but its composition is not. Some of it is water leaving an evaporator, some is byproduct with a buyer, some is logged scrap, and some has no record at all. Reported together, those become one figure that nobody can act on.
What Yieldstem is designed to analyze
A run-level balance across receipts, finished product, byproducts, documented losses, process mass changes, work-in-progress, rework and inventory adjustments. Each stream carries its evidence and a status showing whether it was measured, calculated, or is still open.
Why it matters operationally
Unresolved mass becomes a specific, sized quantity. It often turns out to be a measurement problem such as an uncalibrated scale or an unrecorded tank level, and fixing that improves every later analysis as well.
The decision it supports
Where to improve measurement, which unresolved discrepancies warrant a physical check, and whether a reported loss is real or an artefact of the records.
| Stream | Mass | Evidence | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apples received, net | 24,000 kg | Weighbridge WB-30114 | Reconciled |
| Finished puree | − 15,480 kg | Filler count, 1,290 drums | Reconciled |
| Pomace, sold | − 3,120 kg | Inventory ADJ-7702 | Reconciled |
| Evaporated water | − 3,600 kg | Solids balance, estimated | Calculated |
| Sorting rejects | − 720 kg | Reject bin weights | Documented |
| QA-rejected drums | − 360 kg | QA hold record | Documented |
| Line-clearance solids | − 240 kg | Changeover log | Documented |
| Unresolved discrepancy | 480 kg | 2.0% of input, no supporting record | Open |
Start with the problem that costs you most.
Few operations need all of this at once. If one of these questions is already being argued about in your plant, it is a practical place to begin the conversation.
